Spacer India: Moily Pressures State Firms on Aviation Fuel (11/01/2013)

Oil Minister Veerappa Moily has criticised state oil forms for charging about 25% more for jet fuel supplied to Indian carriers than foreign firms, seeking an explanation for their alleged indulgence in opaque pricing practices.
Moily is reportedly considering asking the downstream petroleum regulator to monitor Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) rates following allegations from Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Sigh that state oil companies are discriminating between domestic and international airlines. "The minister (Moily) has given a week's notice to oil PSUs to explain why he shouldn't ask Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board to monitor their ATF pricing, which is allegedly non-transparent," an official told the Economic Times.

Moily had a meeting with top officials from state oil marketing firms last Friday. Fuel accounts for roughly 40% of the operating costs incurred at domestic aviation firms.
