UAE: ADNOC Promising Cleaner Diesel (18/10/2012)

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has confirmed plans to offer cleaner diesel fuel for export through its 2013 term contract, according to industry sources. The move will make ADNOC the first Middle Eastern producer to export ultra-low sulphur diesel outside the region on a term basis, with most of the shipments expected to go to Europe.
The company’s plan for regular shipments will make it a competitor to India as a supplier, and capitalises on lower refinery use rates in Europe. It has been offering the cleaner diesel fuel for exports in the spot market since late June.
ADNOC had term contracts to export about 600,000 tonnes of gasoil a year with a higher sulphur content until the end of last year. It skipped term exports as it sought to meet higher specifications for new markets such as Europe.
