India: Bihar Authorities Angry at Oil Company Price Rises (03/08/2012)

Authorities in the state of Bihar are complaining that oil companies have increased the price of petroleum related products without first consulting the region’s government. Sushil Kumar Modi (pictured), Deputy Chief Minister of the State, said that authorities had sought details on the price changes, but that there was no response from the companies. He said that there had not been an alteration in any of the charges the state imposes on petroleum products, hence this could not be the reason for the change.
“The oil companies have not given any information to the state government about the irrecoverable taxes before increasing the petrol prices,” said Modi,
A meeting on the matter will be help once the state receives a response from the oil companies, Modi added.
